Walter Melvin Boone Sr. affectionately known as “Barney”, departed this life at his home on Thursday, September 3, 2020 when God dispatched an angel for him. He was born on December 28, 1934 in Caroline County VA to the late Alonza and Mary Ellen Boone.

He received his formal education at McDuff School and served his country in the United States Army.

He joined Ebenezer Baptist Church in Chilesburg, VA where he served as a Trustee. He was a member of the Senior and Mass choirs. He was also a member of the Men’s chorus and took pride in singing with the guys. No matter how he felt he still pushed to attend church.
He was united in marriage to the late Delores Vernita Boone on January 4, 1960. Together they reared five children. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Paula Brown and Cheryl Lewis and one son Walter Boone Jr.

He worked for the Dept. of Interior National Park Service for 27 years before retiring. He had a passion for working on lawn mowers and took great pride in planting vegetables in his garden.
Barney touched many lives in a special way that words cannot describe. He had many jokes and stories to tell. God blessed him to bear his illness and continued to strengthen him to the end. He will be greatly missed.

He leaves to cherish his memory three loving daughters, Violet Young (Michael) of Ruther Glen, Sydney Rollins (Vada) of Hanover and Pamela Jones (Robert) of Richmond, one son Andrew Toliver (Sharon) of Ruther Glen. Seventeen grandchildren, one devoted, Vincent Ferguson, fourteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Emma Baylor and Louise Young and one brother Freddie Boone; three sister-in-laws, four brother-in-laws and a host of nieces, one devoted Carolyn Marshall, nephews, relatives and friends; and two devoted friends, Earnest Jones and Philip Johnson.
