Viola Tyler Fleming departed this earthly life for her heavenly wings on, Thursday September 10, 2020.

Viola gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Bethany Baptist Church, Montpelier, VA. She also attended public schools in Hanover County.

Viola was born to the late John and Elma Smith on September 27, 1938. She was the fourth of six children.

Viola was married to the late Colonial Fleming for over 50 years; from this union five children were born; two processed her in death; Yvonne F. Lewis and Viola P. Fleming.
Preceded in death also were three grandchildren; Rochelle McCowan, Sharika Lewis and James McCowan, Jr., along with two sisters; Alice Brown and Elizabeth Tyler and one brother; Tom Tyler.

Vi, as many knew her, was a quiet woman with a large heart of love. She loved cooking her specialty, Rice Pudding. She loved being around her family. She enjoyed many years of traveling with her husband seeing many parts of the world.
She always opened her home to family and friends that needed a place to stay. She loved playing bingo until her health failed her. Many loved her.

She leaves to cherish in loving memory her devoted children, Colonial Jr., Alonzo (Robin) Fleming, Shirley (James) McCowan and James Tyler. One devoted sister; Lelia Derricott, one brother; John Smith, Jr. One aunt; Hazel Woodson. Eight grandchildren; Quentin James, Chanelle McCowan, Bruce Lewis, Jolisa Freeman, Jada and China Porcher. Twelve great-grandchildren. Two devoted nieces, Vivian Hutt and Carolyn Patterson. One devoted nephew; Curtis Fleming, Jr. Three devoted cousins, Rosa Fleming, Mary Carol and Leonard Harris. One devoted friend Carol Waddy. In addition, a host of other relatives and friends.
