Mattie Pollard, also known as “Duckie” was born on July 19th, 1936, to the late Annie and Osborne Pollard. She departed this life on Sunday October 23rd, 2022, at Memorial Regional Hospital where she went peacefully at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by four sisters; Edith Pollard, Anniebelle Bagley, Shirley Taylor and Queen Pollard.

She was the mother of five children, three of which preceded her in death; Jaqueline Pollard, James Pollard, and Joyce Pollard. Mattie attended King attended King William Training School and joined St. Paul Baptist Church at an early age and attended until her health failed. Mattie was a hard-working caring woman who never failed to put her family first. She worked as a caregiver to several families. She had a smile and laugh that was contagious.

Mattie was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother, cousin and friend. She spent her time doing word searches, watching Young and the Restless, The Bold and Beautiful, Lifetime movies and game shows. Not to mention spending time with her family and friends.

Mattie leaves to cherish her memories, two daughter Barbara Pollard of Richmond, Geraldine Pollard of King William. She had 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She also leaves to cherish her memories of four devoted friends Willie Brooks, Alice Foster, Melba Clayborne and Bruce Berkeley.
