Marvin Dewey Smith, Sr. was born on June 10, 1950, to the late Otis Stanley Smith, Jr., and Hazel Williams Smith. He departed this life on Monday, April 15, 2024, at his residence and he is now resting in the arms of our Heavenly Father.

Marvin accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at an early age, was baptized and joined Jericho Baptist Church in Ruther Glen, Virginia. He attended Sunday School as a requirement of his parents. He sang with the Senior Choir under the direction of the late Mrs. Marge Cheeks-Dickerson where he learned to sing tenor. He graduated from Union High School in 1968. He was married to the late Judith Logan Smith on September 28, 1995, for 28 years.

He worked for Western Electric, Bell Atlantic and Verizon where he was a Warehouse Attendant until he retired in 2007. He enjoyed fishing, especially dipping herrings and going Deep Sea fishing with family and friends. He loved watching the Westerns all day long in his favorite recliner. Also, he enjoyed playing Bid Whist and Spades with family and friends.
Marvin and his brother Oscar played with the Virginia Royals Ball team. Marvin played outfield and Oscar played second base. Marvin and his brother had a close relationship spending time fishing and going drag racing. Marvin made daily visits after work to see his parents to ensure they were doing good. The time spent with them was sitting under a tree in the backyard when the weather permitted enjoying the fresh country air.

Marvin was always the mischievous sibling causing trouble and somehow would avoid his punishment. So, they would chalk it up to him having the middle child syndrome. Marvin genuinely loved and cared for his family.
