Christopher Morley Coates was born to Cora and Walter Coates in Fredericksburg, VA. He was raised in Caroline County.

Chris was formerly educated in Caroline County public schools and his higher education at Virginia Union University. Chris played football in high school. He played the saxophone in both Caroline High School and Virginia Union University marching bands. Chris was the drum major in his senior year of high school.

Chris accepted the Lord at an early age and was baptized in Beulah Baptist Church, Woodford, VA. Chris carried the Lord as he trucked along the highways and always said God brought him safely home.

Chris served in the US Army and was a 101st Screaming Eagle. Chris was a jungle warfare expert. Chris was discharged honorable.

Chris loved long distance trucking and driving for Coates Trucking Co. He taught several other young men how to drive a tractor trailer without charging them. He was dedicated to the profession and learned to drive trucks at a young age. He also loved as much as trucking riding his motorcycle.

Chris was preceded in death by his father Walter Coates and his older sister, Janice Coates and his mother, Cora Coates followed him to glory five days after. He leaves to cherish his life his wife, Linda, two sons; Toland and Damion (Angela); brothers, Donald (Carolyn) and Victor; sister, Angela, all of Caroline, VA; grandchildren, Morgan of Raleigh, NC, Trent of Norfolk, VA, Jasmine and Jordyn both of Florida; three nephews, one niece, four brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, ex-daughter-in-law, Jenifer; a favorite aunt always, Doll, devoted cousin Tracie; many uncles, aunts cousins and friends including tony that kept them both awake as they traveled the highways.
