Michael Darnell Young, Sr. affectionately known as “Zook”, “Mike” or “Red” transitioned to his heavenly home on February 1, 2024, at his home in Ruther Glen, VA. He was born on August 23, 1954, to the late Smith Young Jr and Patricia Young. He was also preceded in death by his sister Sharon Young. Michael accepted Christ as his savior at an early age at Jericho Baptist Church. He later moved his membership to Ebenezer Baptist Church to be with his wife and children. He was very active in the life of the church and served faithfully as chairman of the Trustees Ministry. He also served with the Mass Choir and Male Chorus. He had a strong faith in God and praised him through the good and the bad. Michael attended Caroline County public schools and was a graduate of the class of 1972 at Ladysmith High School where he participated in chorus, basketball, and football. Michael was employed at Kings Dominion for 38 years before retiring. While there he developed many lifelong relationships with his co-workers. He played baseball with the Virginia Royals from “Boone Town” in Ruther Glen for several years. He was an avid Washington Commanders fan and enjoyed attending games with his family and friends. Michael also loved drag racing and looked forward to supporting Young Racing with his brother Adrian behind the wheel. Michael enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved being “PaPa” to his grandchildren and supporting them in activities they participated in.
