Russell “Nick” Franklin Bundy Sr, 77, of Fredericksburg, Virginia passed away April 14, 2024 at Mary Washington Hospital. He was born March 30, 1947 in Fredericksburg, Virginia to the late William Randolph Bundy Sr. and Thelma Maggie Brown. Nick was a devoted husband to his late wife, Gwendolyn Janet Bundy, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter Dr. Pauline Bundy Collins (David) of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, sons Russell Franklin Bundy Jr. (Yu) of Sagamihara-shi, Kanagawa-ken, Japan, Derrek Kentrell Bundy of Phoenix, Arizona, Quentin Wendell Barbour Bundy (Colisha) of Fredericksburg, Virginia; eight grandsons Alex, Brandin, Isaiah, Christian, David Jr., Kai, Ezekiel, Yori; four granddaughters Micheala, Nya, Alivia, Rosalind; one great granddaughter Sanaa. As well as two sister-in laws Catherine Samuel and Mavis Allen and a host of relatives and friends. In recent years, Nick found companionship and care in the loving presence of his partner, Johnnie Minor. Johnnie’s dedication and support brought comfort and joy into Nick’s life, enriching his days with her kindness and affection. Nick played basketball for James Monroe High School. Despite receiving a basketball scholarship, Russell answered the call of duty when drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. After attending James Monroe High School, Mr. Bundy also proudly served his country as a member of the US Army’s Signal Corps which took him to Vietnam. Upon leaving the military, Nick attended Germanna Community College. He led a diverse career, serving the community in various roles. He worked at the Free Lance Star newspaper, excelled as a tire salesman, and lent his skills to Shiloh Baptist Church in numerous capacities. Whether in sales or church service, Russell’s dedication and kindness left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Nick was very active at Shiloh Old Site Baptist Church, as well as other community activities. After his retirement in 2019, Nick found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including spending quiet days fishing, immersing himself in the tales of Western films, and passionately cheering for his beloved Washington Redskins football team. Nick adored his children and grandchildren, surrounding them with hugs and love that filled their lives with warmth and joy. His affectionate nature and boundless love created cherished memories that will forever be treasured by his family. In honoring the life of Russell Franklin Bundy Sr., we celebrate a man whose love knew no bounds, whose kindness touched countless hearts, and whose legacy will continue to inspire us all. May his spirit of warmth, generosity, and unwavering love live on in our memories forever. Rest in peace, dear Russell, knowing you are dearly loved and deeply missed |
