RHODA VANESSA DAVIS MICKEY, affectionately known as “Bootsie” to her family, was born on November 15, 1956, in Richmond, Virginia to the late Gertrude and Mosker Edward Davis, Sr. Rhoda passed away peacefully on April 9, 2024 surrounded by family and friends. She grew up in Ashland, VA, and received her education in the Hanover Public School System. At an early age, Rhoda became a devout member of North Gayton Baptist Church, where she served in the Music and Hospitality Ministries. She later joined the Golden Girls Usher’s and Senior’s Ministries and faithfully served until her health began to decline. Rhoda was a kind-hearted and spirited person, known for her pleasant attitude. Her love for people was evident in her work in the retail sector. She worked at Ames and Burlington stores and then at Phar-Mor Drug Store where she was employed for over 20 years, retiring as a floor manager. Her family is beyond grateful for the many miracles Almighty God performed in Rhoda’s life and for the time He allowed them to share with her. Her family love her dearly and will miss her big presence in their lives, but they rejoice knowing Rhoda is at peace and resting as the good and faithful servant she was. Rhoda’s memory will be forever cherished by those who knew and loved her: devoted son, Jermaine Mickey; brothers, Robert Nelson (Catherine) and Mosker Davis Jr.; sister, Wanda Smith; uncles, James Davis, Sr. (Esther), Charles Davis (Loretta), Warren Davis, and Frank Nelson, Jr.; devoted aunt, Mary Jackson; nieces, devoted Kathy Scott and Rhoda Nelson; nephews, Shawn Cross, Shelby Cross, and Demetrius Davis; devoted cousin, DeLora Houston, and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends; and special friend, Marble Riley. “To God be the glory for the wonderful things He has done.” |
