Johnnie Franklin Sumerset Jr was born December 14, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Johnnie Franklin Sr. and Beatrice Sumerset along with four siblings whom all proceeded him in death, eldest brother Bruce Sumerset and three sisters Eula Mae Blanton, Verdell Pride, and Evira Sumerset as well as his only son Johnnie F. Sumerset III. Johnnie was married to Jessie Mae (Jackson) Sumerset from Chicago Heights, Illinois. Johnnie professed his life to Christ at an early age and in adulthood he served as the (Gatekeeper/Usher) for Calvery Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago Heights, Illinois. Johnnie had many accomplishments in his life but his most notable was his affiliation with the Masonic Organization in the city of Chicago where he was a faithful member for 35 years. As a pillar of the community, Johnnie was elected/chosen by his lodge brethren to become Commander- In-Chief of the Consistory, 33rd degree Mason. At a young age Johnnie enlisted into the Navy where he spent four years onboard USS-Sierra AD-18 Tender Destroyer. Later in life Johnnie worked for Chicago Housing Authority as a Supervisor as well as a Supervisor with Frito-Lay where he then retired. Johnnie loved staying active and full of life while bowling on leagues, fishing, skating, playing experience level Chess and was very competitive, wedding photographer, loved barbecuing, he was a smooth Chicago stepper, loved reminiscing about his past and the exciting things he experienced, loved playing pool with family at his home, couldn’t get enough of Sam Cook. To know him was to love him. Johnnie was an entrepreneur as an exterminator for over 30 years. Johnnie leaves to Cherish his loving memory his children, Keysa Bell (Arnold), Virginia, Nickey Rogers, of E. Hazel Crest, IL and LaChone Williams (Kornell Sr.) of Crete, IL . Grandchildren, Nicholas Rogers, Latoya Rogers, Chontierah Jackson (Craig), Kornell Williams Jr. (Sharee) and Kendall Williams (Raven), Eight Great-grandchildren, and a God son, Rosco and a host of nieces and nephews and special friends: Pat, Snooky, Mickey, Sherry, Geraldine, Walter, Ivan, James, Deb and Joyce.
