At 5:30 AM a beautiful spirit took flight… A prayer warrior and soldier heard the voice of the Lord and walked into the light. Mack Wilbur Thomas passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, June 26, 2023 at the age of 86. He was born on November 22, 1936 in Ruther Glen, VA where he was blessed with two angel Moms: Bernice Anderson and Annabelle Thomas, Dad: Herman Thomas. Mack married his high school sweetheart Doris Smith on September 28, 1957. Together the couple of sixty-six years shared five children: Duncan, Marsha, Mark, Sandra, & Lonnie. Mack attended Union High School in Bowling Green, VA and graduated in 1955. He went on to work at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport where he made many lifelong friends, and retired after forty years. In his free time he loved antique cars, listening to music, and singing. He was an active member of Jericho Baptist Church where he served faithfully until his health declined. Mack was a faithful Deacon and served on many auxiliaries including the music ministry, trustee board, and he enjoyed keeping the church grounds immaculate. During his younger years he participated in various musical groups including: The Minor Melody Chorus & The Highway QC’s. He was well known and respected in the community and surrounding areas – Mack took pride in being well dressed and was known for a good laugh, smile, and great conversation. He was preceded in death by his three sisters: Gwendolyn Fuller, Antoinette Chapman, and Barbara Foster, and two brothers: Emmitt Howard and Reginald Anderson. Left to cherish many fond memories is his devoted wife, Doris, five children: Duncan Thomas (Cheryl) of Ladysmith, Virginia, Marsha “Penny” Thomas of Richmond, Virginia, Mark Thomas of Ashland, Virginia, Sandra Carter (Jason) of Ashland, Virginia, and Lonnie Thomas (Jacqueline) of Hanover, Virginia; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and fur baby, Diva; loving sisters: Charlene Johnson of Waldorf, Maryland, Henrietta Rock of Ruther Glen, Virginia, Yvonne Sides of Washington D.C., and Gladys Ferguson (James) of Ruther Glen, Virginia; devoted brother: Melvin Howard of Ruther Glen, Virginia; two sister in law: Carolyn Winston of Ashland, Virginia; Lucy Wood of Lanham, Maryland; brother in law: George Winston of Ashland, Virginia; faithful friend: Caroll Moore, faithful neighbors: Rory Smith, Tracey Smith, and Trady Smith; & caretakers: Tameya, Greg, Natalie, Teena and Allison. |
