Elder Thomas Odell Johnson, 67, of Mineral, VA peacefully departed this life On Friday, September 23, 2022 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA. He was born to the late Ernest and Rosa May Johnson in Spotsylvania, VA. He was preceded in death by two sisters Faye Moore and Betty Johnson, and Brother; Ernest Johnson Jr. Elder Johnson was educated in the Spotsylvania County School System. He was employed by the Spotsylvania County School System for many years and Retired from the Spotsylvania County School System. He worked as a Funeral Associate for many years for several Funeral Services throughout his community. Elder Johnson was affectionately known as Odell. Elder Johnson loved watching sports and was an avid Washington Redskin Fan. In his youth he loved motorcycles and baseball. He loved playing the game of baseball with his brothers and his cousins. Elder Johnson would travel to Louisa and during his travels he ended up “Across the track” where he found the love of his life, Nancy Butler. The two were joined in Holy Matrimony on September 5, 1981. To this Union was born 3 Children: Stacy, Sharita and Travis. Elder Johnson loved them dearly. He then became a grandfather, and his grandchildren was his pride and joy. Elder Johnson’s love for the church grew tremendously when he met the Late Bishop Ben C. Cannady. Elder Johnson repented of his sin and was baptized in the name of Jesus on January 11, 1976 and was filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost. Elder Johnson’s love for gospel music and singing was exceptional. He loved quartet music. Elder Johnson sang with the Spiritual Airs and the Tired Way of Cross Church Men’s Chorus. He was known for singing, “Operator give me long distance”, “Fix it Jesus”, “When I call on God, he will come to my rescue” & “Lord, I know you been so Good.” Elder Johnson served as a brother of the church, and later was ordained as a Deacon. He also served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was Bishop Ben C. Cannady’s right hand man for many years. He was called into the ministry and was ordained a Minister of the gospel in 1996 under The Way of the Cross Church of Christ International. In 2004, having served loyally, faithfully and with integrity in his calling, God saw fit to elevate him to Elder. He served multiple churches throughout his ministry until God called him to True Apostolic Church of Christ in Mineral, VA. Elder Johnson served for 17 years as Pastor of the True Apostolic Church of Christ and God gave him the strength to continue pastoring even up until 2 weeks before his passing. Even when his health began to decline, he said, “I’m going to serve God until I die” and that’s just what he did. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving wife of 41 years, Mother Nancy Johnson, two daughters: Stacy Burt of Louisa, VA and Sharita Carter (Elder Matthew) of Palmyra, VA. One Son: Travis Johnson (Miranda) of Rocky Mount, VA. Three Granddaughters Mikinnah(who was his heart), Marliyah( his little praiser) Raylen( his ray of sunshine);Two Grandsons, Eli( his drummer boy) and Noah(the bossman) ;Two Sisters, Lucy Coles(Gene), Teresa Lewis(Kevin) both of Fredericksburg, VA. One brother, Bobby Johnson (Delphine) of Spotsylvania, VA. Four Sister-in-laws: Emily McCune, and Sally Moore(Aubry) both of Richmond, VA. Hannah Butler of Mineral, VA and Yolanda Johnson of Caroline, VA . Two Aunts Viola Johnson of Beaverdam, VA and Elizabeth Robinson of Richmond, VA. Devoted Friends and Cousin Deacon Elmer Keys, Lois Coles, and Juanita Coles. Devoted Friend, Reedma Rock who he shared a special bond with, His Church family the True Apostolic Church of Christ, a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. |
