Evelyn Jeanette Mines was born on October 14, 1931 in Montpelier VA. To the late John Anderson and Clara Ann James Anderson. Evelyn graduated from John M Gandy High School June 1951, located in Hanover County Virginia. Evelyn dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and joined Bethany Baptist Church. Evelyn was a life -long member of the Usher Board, oh to see her strut was joy. She held various positions while being a doorkeeper for the House of the Lord. She served as secretary, youth advisor and program chairperson where she was responsible for taking the Usher’s to Baltimore Maryland for Usher’s Anniversary yearly. Evelyn served faithfully until her health begin to fail. Evelyn worked for Mrs. Lyde Longaker where she was known as E-Bobbie by Mrs. Longaker’s children who thought of her as their own mother. She stayed with Mrs. Longaker for nine years. After leaving there she went to the Ashland Shirt Factory until they closed. Her final place of employment was General Service Cooperation where she retired at the age of sixty-five. Even after being retired she still went back to work with Mrs. Longaker, they shared a very special bond. Mrs. Longaker spoke with Evelyn days before her death, telling her how much she loved her and Evelyn in return said “I Love you to”. Before her health began to fail she enjoyed attending Montpelier School with the Seniors and the Ebenezer Baptist Church Senior Prayer breakfast. Evelyn enjoyed the simpler things in life, she enjoyed working in her yard and taking care of her flowers. Evelyn was proceeded in death; by her husband Walter A. Mines Sr, Gregory Derek Mines son, three brothers Merle, William and Edward Anderson. Four sisters Lula and Ann Anderson and Eldora Anderson Wilson and Betty Ann Craddock. Four nieces; Delores Melton, Dorothy McCray, of Baltimore Maryland. Frances Gilmore and Carolyn Miller of Pontiac Michigan. Two nephews; Daniel Nicholas of Pontiac Michigan, David Anderson of Baltimore MD, and a host of other nieces and nephews. Devoted Brother in-law Leroy Mines, Devoted Cousin Herman Green and Juan Morris. Devoted nephew James Mines and Devoted Friends Clara Mallory and Edna Jenkins and Janet Thomas. Devoted caregiver Rose Thomas. |
