Alice Mae Fields Dodson was born on June 8, 1935 to the late Thomas and Wilberta Fields in Lorne, Virginia. She was seventh of thirteen children born to their union. Alice was educated in the Caroline County School System. She received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined the St. Luke Baptist Church. She joined Second Mt Zion Baptist Church in 2004. She was a faithful member until her passing. She worked as a cook, caretaker, and domestic worker for over 40 years. A kind hearted and caring person, Alice was beloved by her family, church and community. She loved going to church and cooking for her family and friends. Everyone loved her cakes, pies, and chicken salad. She loved listening to gospel music especially Lee Williams. She would always go to his concerts when he was in town. She loved to dress. She was known for her hats and suits. Alice was a loving, devoted wife and mother. She was a woman of great faith in God. In 2017, she was diagnosed with Parkinson and Lewy Dementia. After about a week in the hospital and six weeks in rehab, Alice walk into church with no cane or walker. Alice with the help of the Lord on her side fought this disease. In 2020, the disease had started to limit her mobility and memory. She was able to stay at home until Sept. 8th with God’s grace, the help of her family, and caregivers Delores Stevens, Margaret Moore, and Linda Greene. She went to Autumn Care in Mechanicsville on Sept 8th. She remained at Autumn Care until the Lord call her home on Dec. 24th. Alice was preceded in death by her sisters Jessie Snead, Barbara Anderson, Bernice Anderson, and Helen Nelson; brothers David Sr, Thomas Jr, Timothy Sr, Robert Sr, and Jamie Fields. Left to cherish her memory are her loving and caring husband Charles Dodson; devoted son Donald Dodson (Jean) of Henrico, and Susan Burk of Vienna that was considered a daughter. She is also survived by her sisters Irene Clarke, Earlene and Geraldine Fields; four sister in laws Clarissa Fields, Gloria Fields, Louise Dodson and Anne Moore; two brother in laws Edward Dodson and Wesley Dodson, Jr; faithful friend Delores Stevens that she considered a sister and a host of other relatives and friends. |
