Dorothy Mae Ford, 92, was surrounded by family as she peacefully transitioned to her new home in Glory on December 12, 2020. She was born on June 14, 1928, to the union of Jubber Churchill Terrell and Rhoda Ann Brown. She was the first born of her siblings. The bond they shared was evident to all who graced their presence. Her wonderful siblings left to cherish her memory are Catherine Nelson, Joseph Terrell and Betty Marshall. She was preceded in death by three other siblings, Charles Terrell Sr., James Terrell and Thelma Thomas. Dorothy was educated in Hanover County. She accepted Christ at an early age. Dorothy loved being a member of St James where she sang for many years in the Senior Church Choir under the direction of her dear friend and pianist Mrs. Ruth Hicks. She also served as President of the Senior Choir. Dorothy found love and was united in holy matrimony to the late Roy Linwood Ford Sr. in 1945. Together, they raised eight amazing children, five sons and three daughters. Doris Fells (Frank), Roy Ford (Regina), James Ford, Hampton Ford (Susan), Patricia Dabney (David), Steve Ford (preceded in death), Ernest Ford Sr. (Vanessa), Carolyn Ford and stepdaughter Theresa Ancarrow (William). They all aspired to be just as wonderful as she was. Dorothy was quiet, humble, kind, and generous. She would always say “I love all my children.” Dorothy was affectionately known as “mom” to anyone that came in contact with her loving spirit. She leaves behind a tractor trailer load of grandchildren, a school bus load of great grandchildren, a minivan load of great-great grandchildren and a SUV load of children that loved their “grandma”. |
