Irving Charles Hinton, Sr. was born to the late Dorothy Sims and Willie Hinton on August 23, 1944 in Washington, DC. He was second (of a set of twins) born to this union. He departed this life on Friday, August 14, 2020 in Washington, DC. Irving Hinton was baptized and raised in the First Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend Ernest R. Gibson. Irving was educated in the D.C. Public Schools, attending Cleveland Elementary, Garnet Patterson Jr. High, and Cardoza High School. He then went on to study at the D.C. Teachers College. Irving enjoyed golfing, photography, singing, writing and composing. He liked traveling and taking the children on outings. He loved his family and was man of profound grace and love for Washington, DC. Irving worked for the North Business Machines Company where he repaired all types of office machines and delivered them to the Federal Government and other business establishments in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. He was a political activist, a former ANC 6A02 Commissioner, and was always involved in the campaign for his candidate of choice. Irving Hinton was preceded in death by his parents; his grandmother, Nannie Shaw; his wife, Carolyn Hinton; twin brother, Ernest Hinton; sister-in-law, Millicent Mouzon Johnson; and daughter, Renee Hinton. He leaves to cherish his memory, his sons Irving Jr., Gregory, and Daryl; daughter Zina (three granddaughters: Jasmine and twins, Tia and Mia); brother, Clarence Johnson (nephew, Anthony and twin niece and nephew, Raquel and Ralph); nephew Calvin Quarterman; special grandchildren, Shannon, Wayne, India, Mahasin, Darius, and Nicholas; and a host of family and friends, who are too numerous to name, but who were special in so many ways. |
