James Linwood (Stumpy) Thaniel

James Linwood Thaniel, (affectionately known as “Stumpy”), 66, quietly slipped away into eternal rest at the Acute Care Hospice Center, Charlottesville, Va.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mattie Mae Harris, his grandmother (Big Momma) Blanche Thaniel, and his aunt (Nannie) Jane Jones.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and Army Reserve for 25 years, where he served as Drill Sergeant for many years. He worked at FSTC, Charlottesville, Va. and was a dedicated employee of Beckley Sawmill, Bumpass, Va.

Stumpy is survived by his loving daughter Jami, her husband Chris and one granddaughter Claire. Also left to cherish his memory are a host of uncles, one devoted Robert “Bob” Jones aunts and cousins.

He also leaves behind loving friends: Barbara Dandridge, Daries Morris, Tyrone Jackson, Nick Jackson and many special neighbors.
