Mary Isabell Tolliver, 100, departed this earthly life, June 25, 2020, and entered eternal rest. Emotional gratification was her highest form of happiness. She was a woman of God. Affectionately known as “Ma”, it was in her heart to do what she could to assure that someone else does better. We stand on her knowing. Her devotion to children was boundless. She had a special bond with children. No one can calm a fussy child like she did with that “Isabell rock”. She would always encourage and support children in pursing their dreams. Her home was the center of all things food, family, friends, and love. Artistically, she became extremely keen in cooking potato salad, chicken-n-dumplings baking coconut or pound cakes, blackberry cobbler or lemon meringue pie, and sewing clothes, drapes, and making expert alterations. August 13, 1939 she married her divine love James E. Tolliver, Jr. (Jimmy). They had five children: Jean Jackson, Elmer Tolliver, James A. Tolliver, Gloria T. Fields, and Karen Grymes. Other family members include her sister Margarette Blakemore; two daughters –in-law Brenda Tolliver and Renee Tolliver; two sons-in-law Eugene R. Fields and Joseph Grymes, Jr.; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grand children; two great-great grandchildren; and many other friends and relatives. Her legacy is be you. |
