Herland R. Baker, Sr., 82, was born on March 4, 1938 in Woodford, Virginia to the late Deacon Napoleon Warsaw Baker and Deaconess Florence Elizabeth Freeman Baker. He went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 19, 2020 at the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, Spotsylvania, Virginia, after a short bout with health complications. Herland accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Personal Savior at an early age, was baptized and joined the old Macedonia Baptist church at an early age. Later in life, he joined the Third Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Antonio Baker, Sr. Herland was a landscaper for over 60 years and took great pride in his work. He was meticulous in his craft and made sure that every job was his very best. He treated all of his customers the same and made sure that if you were employed by him, you would have to tow the mark. Customer service was number one with him and he would never ask his employees to do more than he was willing to do. Herland always had a smile and he always greeted you with that smile and his loud baritone voice reverberated it seems for miles onward. He was a friend to everyone. He loved his wife, Gloria and he loved his family. When she was in the rehab facility, he was right there by her side every day.
