Our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, Willmar Sylvester Jackson known by his friends as Hook and Knuckle Ball, went home to be with the Lord early Saturday, December 9, 2017. He was born in Louisa County on May 15, 1931 to the late William and Jeannette Coles Jackson. Willmar attended Louisa County Public Schools and was employed as a truck driver until he retired from Tarmac America. He also drove a number of years for Holly Farms, Concrete Pipe and Hauling, and Dymacek Trucking in Montpelier. Upon his retirement, he drove part-time for Edwin Jackson Hauling and several others.
He joined Mt. Olivet at an early age and was a faithful member until his health failed recently. He sung briefly in the choir and if you sat close enough, you could hear him belt out a very smooth bass. He spent many years playing his favorite sport which was baseball and his family traveled with him to many games. When he was too senior to play, he formed and coached a team named the Blue Jays and sometimes played if his players didn't show. Willmar’s favorite Professional baseball team was the LA Dodgers and he loved watching them as well as the Washington Redskins play on television.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy Yancey Jackson; son, Sylvester; great-great granddaughter, Arianna; brother, James; and sister, Elnora.
Willmar leaves to cherish his memory four devoted children, Wanda F. Thurston (Curtis) Louisa, VA, Deborah J. Pryor (Curtis) Montpelier, VA, W. Andre Jackson, Ashland, VA, and Wesley E. Jackson (Bonnie), Montpelier, VA; 10 grandchildren, Adrian Thurston, Janelle Martin, Shawn Jackson, Rochelle Pryor, Dana Terry, Sheronda Jones, Donte Thurston, Jamel Jackson, Andre “AJ”, and Destiny Jackson; 21 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Doris Jackson, Norma Terry (Clayton), and Katrina Hicks (Douglas) all of Richmond, VA; two brothers, William Jackson, Hyattsville, MD, and Norman Jackson (Betty), Richmond, VA; sister-in-law, Evangelist Ruth Mallory, Montpelier, VA; brother-n-law, Danny Yancey (Ruby), Virginia. Beach, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; dedicated caregivers Pearline Stephenson and Doris Nowlin; and devoted friend and neighbor Cindy Sacra, who checked in on him daily.
