Maria Lou Minor Smith was called to her Heavenly home on Saturday, November 11, 2017 @ 1:30 pm. Maria was born as the second child to the Late Rev. Harry and LouVinia Minor on December 20, 1925, in Stoney Creek, Va. She became a caretaker to her family and also accepted Christ as her lord and savior at a very young age. Maria was married February 10, 1951 for 56 years to the Late Genie Smith and they had six children.
Her family was first in her life; however, her community could always depend on her for a helping hand. Maria was a very hard worker and while raising her children and taking care of her husband, she was employed as a domestic worker and took care of the employer’s children. She worked at Redency Square Mall in Richmond for number of years, Kelly Temp Agency and Kings Dominion. She was a faithful member for over fifty years at Second Baptist Church in Ruther Glen, VA, where she was a Missionary member, a Choir member and a Deaconess. Later she joined her husband at Jericho Baptist Church in Ruther Glen, VA, where she served as a Choir member, and Deaconess.
Maria was a member of The Friendship Club in Ruther Glen, VA, and they fellowshipped at different homes for many years. Maria not only taught her children about Jesus Christ, but she led others to the Lord. She was known for making great potato salad, fried chicken and baking cakes, but her fruit cakes were second to none. Maria also enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables, sewing and kept things very cleaned around the house. Her children would call her a perfectionist in housekeeping.
She leaves to cherish her memories her six children; Lenora Stringfellow (Rev. Michael Jason), Hattie A. Gregory (Ronald), Genie N. Smith, Jr. (Susie), Patricia N. Smith, Brenda L. Anderson (Curtis), Coretta C. Smith (caretaker); nine grandchildren; Shelbert “Maric” Gregory, Rachel Stuckey, Bianca Mitchell, Nikoshia Williams, Casey Garrett, LaQuan Anderson, Melissa Smith, Dana Miles, and LaTonya Anderson; nine great grandchildren; Aalyah, Kenrick, Timothy Jr., Aalysa, Jordan, Lauren, Ahmad, Gabriel, Morris and Aria. One sister Mamie Smith (Jewell), one brother Fred Minor; three sister in-laws; Rosetta Minor, Clara Washington (Henry) and Orlean Johnson; devoted friends; Doris Thomas, Henrietta Rock, Laceshia Washington (adopted daughter and caretaker) and many more.

Not flesh of my flesh, nor bone of my bone, but still miraculously my own.
Never forget for a single minute, you grew not under my heart, but in it.
