Today, we celebrate a phenomenal husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and an undeniable, unforgettable friend.

Joseph Andrew Nelson was born May 17, 1927 to the late James Andrew and Annie B Nelson in Caroline County, Va. He slipped away quietly into eternal rest to be with God on Friday, March 16, 2018. Joseph was preceded in death by his daughter, Shelia Marie Nelson, grandchildren, Andrew Douglas Nelson and LaTosha NaShay Nelson siblings Robert Thomas, Odell Thomas, Nannie Thomas, Bernice Thomas, James Nelson, Haster Nelson, Leroy Thomas, Arthur Nelson and Christine Nelson.

At an early age, he was consecrated to Christ and became a member of Jericho Baptist Church and remained an active member of the Board of Trustee, Choir, Deacon Board, Sunday School Teacher and anything else Jericho asked until his health began to fail him. He was educated in Caroline County Public Schools. He joined the US Army, where he proudly served his country. He worked at McGuire Veteran Hospital for 30 plus years as a nurse’s aide while working full-time as an electrician wiring homes and businesses.

Joseph and Catherine were united in marriage for sixty-nine (69) years and of this union 4 children were born.

Joseph was best known to you as Uncle Joe because everyone loved and respected him, but to his family he was Daddy, Pops and Papa. He demonstrated what life was supposed to be like. He had a kind and generous heart. He taught us to always put God first and everything else would fall into place for our strength comes from the Lord and HE is always listening.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Catherine A. Nelson, his son, Carroll M. Nelson, daughters Geneva L. Nelson and Delois N. Vaughan, three grandsons, Darrell Nelson, James Vaughan, Jr. and Andre Nelson, and five great grandchildren, Ke’Andre’ Nelson, James Vaughan, III, Taliah Jennings, Tianna Jennings and London Nelson, his brother Eddie Nelson and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He will be sorely missed by all.
