Alma Blanche Pollard Thomas departed this life January 17, 2018 at the age of 80. She was born in
Beaverdam, VA to Melford and Minnie Pollard. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, George Melford and Eldridge and her four sisters, Doris Watkins, Phillis Thompson, Etta Jean Thaniel and Geraldine Richardson. She married Bernard (Joe) on October 01,1955 and they were married for 36 years until his death in 1991.
She joined the Bethany Baptist Church on 08/16/1948 and was a faithful member until her health prevented her from attending. Even if she could not attend her daughter had to tell her about the service and provide a bulletin. She was a member of the Deaconess Board and the Missionary Society.
She assisted her husband as clerk and financial secretary for over fifteen years. She was involved in many other activities of the church. She was very charitable person who felt it was her mission to visit the sick and comfort the bereaved and wrote the church obituary letters for many years.
Alma was employed at United Virginia Bank (SunTrust) for many years and retired from the Hanover County Commissioner of Revenue after over 25 years of employment. She often went out of her way to provide help to persons she encountered on her job.
Alma was active in the community, working with the cub scouts, the PTA, Western Hanover Emergency Action Team, the Hanover Community Center and other organizations.
She loved to travel both away and nearby. When she was well she enjoyed traveling around with her friends Lois Stanley and Jeanette Thomas. She was an intelligent person who had no problem speaking her mind. Often when people called or visited her she provided them with encouragement.
She leaves to cherish her memories, three sons Bernard Jr (Kay), Joseph, and Ronald (Lizzie) and daughter Linda (Stevie), a sister Joyce Pollard, ten grandchildren Joseph Jr, Sean, Corey, Alisha, Micah, Myah, Marcus, Marquise, Mario and Stephanie, several great-grandchildren including her adored Lauren and Riley, nieces, nephews, cousins, sister and brothers-in-laws and other family and friends. A special thank you to Glenda Thomas for all that you did.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. Words cannot express the loss of a loved one in death. Losing someone in death feels like a very unnatural thing and that's because it is. Death is actually called "The last enemy" at 1Corinthians 15:26. This means that God did not intend for death to happen to humans, actually at Genesis 1:28 Jehovah God commands a perfect Adam and Eve to "be fruitful and become many fill the earth...". What you can really draw comfort from is the promise of a resurrection found at John 5:28, 29 where it tells us not to "be amazed at this (death)...all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life...". We can really draw comfort from these words. But what can we look forward to after this resurrection? Well when you get a quiet moment please read Revelation 21:4
