Allean D. Smith



Allean D. Smith passed away peacefully on Sunday December 24 2017 in Washington, D.C. at her home. She was one of two siblings born to the proud parents of Vivian Louise Keene Blair and James Cerra Blain in Winston Salem, North Carolina on August 31, 1940. She was educated in the North Carolina Public School System.

She joined the First Baptist Church of Winston Salem where she was an Usher and was a part of various other ministries. She later came to the Washington metropolitan area where she was employed at Howard University as Administrative Assistant until she retired.

Allean joined Canaan Baptist in 1974 where she continued her Christian experience through various ministries: Canaan Choral Ensemble, Emergency Assessment, Royal Pulpit, Pastor’s Vacation, Naomi McCollough Sunday School and BTU. In addition, Allean learned to operate the Multigraph, Multilith Offset and Duplicating Machine under the direction of Rev. John Alexander. After Joining Canaan Allean met and married Deacon Antonio Smith in January 1989 and he died October 12, 1989.

Even after retirement Allean continued to volunteer by help others. She volunteered at Stoddard Baptist Home for over thirteen years. In 2008, Allean was named Volunteer of the Year during the District of Columbia Health care Association’s Trade Show. She started out volunteering at Stoddard in the Gift Shop on Saturdays. Throughout the years she worked in the Therapeutic Recreation Department and served as an escort until her heath failed her. She was always dependable no matter the weather.
