Her Life…

Sarah Elizabeth Chandler Stevens entered eternal rest on Tuesday evening, October, 31, 2017 at home surrounded by her family and friends. Sarah was born June 21, 1929 to the late James and Nezzie Chandler in Caroline County, VA.

In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Stevens, her siblings Lucy Stevens, Barbara Morrow and Marguerite Hall and her grandson Irvin Stevens III.

Sarah confessed Christ at an early age and joined Second Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was a member of the Rock of Ages Senior Citizens Ministry at Second Mt. Zion. She was employed at the Richmond Tobacco Factory for many years and later in her career she worked for the Westminster Canterbury Retirement Community. Memories of Sarah will remain in our hearts forever.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Doris P. (James) Thomas of Ruther Glen, VA and Jato Stevens Wallace of Washington DC; three sons, Irvin Jr (Gloria) Stevens, and Bobby (Margaret) Stevens of Ruther Glen, VA and Jimmy A. (Jessie) Stevens of Washington, DC; 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; four brothers Charles (Jean) Chandler, Andrew Chandler, James (Earlene) Chandler and Walter (Geraldine) Chandler; two brothers-in-law Watt (Delores) Stevens and Roland Stevens; one sister-in-law Geraldine (Warren) Baylor. Devoted friends Virginia Edwards, Everely Tillman and Harriet Harris. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
