Yvonne J. Clarke beloved daughter of the late William and Lillie Johns on was born on August 5, 1931. She departed this life on February 1, 2020 peacefully into eternal rest in the presence of her loving family at The Laurels of University Park, Henrico, VA.
At an early age, Yvonne was baptized and became a member of Bethany Baptist Church. She was a faithful member and served her church well. She joined the Women’s Usher’s Ministry when it was first organized in 1949. Yvonne was a member of the Sanctuary Choir and worked on other various committees during her lifetime.
Yvonne was the fifth child of nine siblings. She graduated from Hanover County Training School and was employed as a bus driver for the Hanover School District for several years.
On July 28, 1956, Yvonne was married to the “love of her life”, Irvin H. Clarke. The two were married for sixty-four years. They cherished many good years and always enjoyed travelling with family or having family visits.
In later years, Yvonne furthered her career and was employed at DMV. During this time, they moved to Richmond, VA. When they made the decision to move back to Montpelier, VA,, Yvonne retired from DMV after 27 1/2 years of service. She enjoyed many years as an active member of the community working on fundraisers to build a better community center in the area. She took pleasure in visiting the sick and was a part of a group who visited and celebrated birthdays with those in nursing homes. She made visits with them every chance she had.
Yvonne Johnson Clarke was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin H. Clarke; Parents, William and Lillie Johnson; Brothers, William W. Johnson, Howard B. Johnson, and Wallace Johnson; Sister, Shelia J. Clarke. She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted family of two brothers, Alphonso “Bug” Johnson, Doctor P. Johnson; two sisters, Margo Johnson Thaniel and Janice Johnson Giles; devoted brother-in-law, T. Allen Giles; loving sisters-in-law, Beulah Johnson and Mary Johnson;; a devoted Stepson, Lester Gordon (Brenda) as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also, very special and caring neighbors and friends, Eva Robertson, whom she spoke to every day , Barbara and Eddy Mines, and Juanita Henderson; nieces Joyce C. Hill and Debra Banks.
Yvonne was a loving and devoted sister, friend, daughter, Auntie and wife. She was loved and cherished by all of her family. She was showered with gifts by her nieces but most importantly, she was showered with so much love and this she knew. Rest in peace our love. We loved you so much but God loves you best.
