Yolanda Denise Cary, better known as Neicy, was born to the late Leslie Cary Sr. and Ida Catherine Wilkerson Cary on December 6, 1956.
She was preceded in death by her grandson Rakee Cary, brothers; Basim Muhammad (Leslie Jr)., Danny Cary, and Thomas Cary.
She attended Hanover Public Schools graduating from Patrick Henry High School in 1975. Yolanda was gainfully employed throughout life; her last place of employment was with “The Cap Up Resource Center” (a non-profit), as Custodian before her physical health failed her.
At an early age, Neicy was baptized at Jerusalem Baptist church of Doswell, VA under the leadership of Melford Walker Sr. She participated in various church activities, namely the children’s choir, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School. During her journey through life, her faith in God never faltered.
Neicy grew up in Doswell and GumTree among family and friends under the care of her mother Catherine (in her youth), Aunt Betty Shelton (in her pre-teen), and Father Leslie Nub (in her teenage years) in true meaning of an African Proverb ” It takes a Village to raise a child.” Thank you, Mrs. Hattie Pleasants, for being a part of the village (R.I.P.).
Neicy enjoyed meeting new people. She relocated to Richmond, VA where she gained new friends and built her family through her daughter Keneisha, who prides herself for giving her mother four wonderful granddaughters, one grandson, and one great granddaughter. Certainly, Yolanda’s legacy continues.
Neicy instilled in her daughter and grandchildren the importance of education, and the Reverence of the Lord. Her favorite pastime was being with family & friends, watching her favorite football team the “COWBOYS,” listening to music, especially songs by Patti LaBelle (favorite being “You are my Friend”). She loved down-to-earth people, fast cars, and good times. She was fearless and intelligent. Neicy loved folk for who they were and lived her life in a “no judgement zone.” Neicy was a loving caring person who would give the shirt off her back to the one in need.
Yolanda Denise Cary will be missed by many including her mid 70’s car rider friends of the sky-blue Chevrolet traveling the speed of the wind! The Lord was truly watching over her & us.
Neicy leaves to cherish her memories; devoted and loving Daughter Keneisha Cary (Otis Hendricks), four Granddaughters; Rickyma Cary, Rickyza Cary-Dewitt, Tekayla &Tekyhia Cary-Williams, one Stepdaughter; Denena Goodman, one Great Granddaughter; LaNise Timberlake, two Sister-in-laws; Theresa Anncarrow & Anne Thomas, two Aunts; Reverend Corine Lucas (Warick) & Arlene Wilkerson, one Uncle; Melvin Wilkerson. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Close friend Emma Henderson, Friends; Rickey Dewitt (father of Rickyza & Rickyma), Regina (Jeannie) Edwards, Wanda Farmer, Laurita Johnson, and too many others to name.
