William Rucker Beverly, better known as “Buddy” by family, friends and close associates; transitioned from this life Friday, December 4, at Lynchburg General Hospital after a brief illness.

William was born July 22, 1946 in Lynchburg, VA. To the late Rucker and Mary Beverly. He became a member of South Lynchburg Baptist Church as a youth.

William grew up on Florida Avenue and attended Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School, graduating in 1964. He continued his education at Virginia State College, majoring in music for two years. He then joined the United States Air Force for a tour of duty. After being honorably discharged from the service he worked at Babcock & Wilcox before working at the U. S. Post Office and retiring in March of 2008.

William was an avid lover of music. He played the trumpet and piano for various local bands for many years. He would often call his cousins who lived next door to him to come and listen to him while he played.

William was blessed with a brilliant mind and would often remember dates, times and events long forgotten by others. He could even remember what a person may have been wearing at any particular time.

William loved his family and friends dearly, always welcoming them into his home for shelter if there was a need. He had a kind and generous heart always considering others even above himself.

William is survived by two aunts, Dorothy Gordon of Flint, MI and Betty Johnson of Lynchburg, VA. He leaves to mourn many dedicated close friends and relatives; among which are: Barry Beverly who often transported him to and from his doctor visits. Bryant Allen who faithfully kept watch out for him and ran errands for him. Joanne Copeland who was more like a sister to him, caring for his personal needs.

Buddy will be sadly missed by all who cared for and loved him. He will be fondly remembered for his warm and pleasant personality.
