Mr. Warren “Joe” Anderson of Ashland, Virginia, was born to the late John M. Anderson Sr. and Gladys Anderson on June 6, 1939. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called him home early in the morning on Tuesday, October 16, 2024, at the age of 85.

Joe received his education at Rucker School in King William County VA. At an early age, he excepted Christ at Mangohick Baptist Church in King William, Virginia. He also joined First Baptist Church with his wife in Ashland, Virgina.

Joe loved watching his westerns on TV and was a diehard Washington Commanders fan. He was affectionately called “Joe Black” and “Soul Man” by all who knew him. He was a quiet, gentle person who always had a smile on his face and loved his family. He also loved to dance and loved music but most of all… he loved to listen to anything from James Brown; where he would do a dance called “the bicycle”.

Joe married the love of his life Theresa Anderson who proceeded him in death and has two stepchildren, Edward Rice Sr. and Carlita Rice, four step-grandchildren: Edward, Briana, Brittany and Bretta and one step-great grandchild Isaiah, all from Maryland.

Joe was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Gladys Anderson; wife, Theresa Anderson; brothers, Chastine Anderson, Robert Anderson, John (Bubba) Anderson Jr., and Conway Anderson; sisters, Eva Anderson, Minnie Wood, and Emma Holmes.

Joe leaves to cherish his memory; His step-children and step-grandchildren listed above, one sister, Florence Tyler; Nieces and Nephew; Chastine Anderson (Sandra), Aaron Anderson (Muriel), Christine Carter, Shelia Massey, Robert (Bobby) Anderson, Shirley (William Latney) Anderson, Rita Anderson (Al Dandridge), Conway (Anthony) Anderson, Eunice Peatross (Roger Hobson), Phyllis Branch (Harrison), Tony Holmes, Barbara Wilkerson (Ricky), Melissa Murphy (Larry), Demetria Anderson (Nelson Green), Shannon Hill (Howard), Anita Tyler, Lamont Tyler, Sterling Wood (Nakita), Charles Wood Jr. (Sharon), Pamela Washington, Princense Wood, Patrice Morgan (Vincent), Penny Burnett (Mark); a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

While all of his nieces and nephews were devoted and dedicated to him, his entrusted caregivers were Shannon Hill, Anita Tyler, Demetria Anderson, Shaneka Hollaway, Melissa Murphy and Tony Holmes. Devoted cousin, Cathrine Johnson. Best friend and cousin Alvin Anderson. Special thanks to InnovAge Virginia PACE and St Mary’s Hospital for taking special care of him.

While all of his nieces and nephews were devoted and dedicated to him, his entrusted caregivers were Shannon Hill, Anita Tyler, Demetria Anderson, Shaneka Hollaway, Melissa Murphy and Tony Holmes.
