“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” Psalm 23:4

Velma Elaine Hatcher peacefully gained her wings at her home on Saturday, November 7, 2020. She was born on May 25, 1954 to the late Rudolph Smith and Bessie “Jenet” Baylor. Her sister, Verna Williams and her adopted brother, Kevin Miller preceded her in death.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Jericho Baptist Church. She attended Caroline County Public Schools. Velma’s past employers include Keller’s, Holly Farms (Tyson Food), Best Products, Richmond Association of Realtors and Glen Allen Mail Service. One day, out of the blue, she called Charles and asked if she could come home. Of course he said, “Sure Honey! You can come home.” She explained to him that she was ready to “retire” and asked if they would be OK. He confirmed that they would be fine. She left her job and dedicated her time to their business, C & V Mail Service.

Velma was Granny to her other grandchildren, but she was Mason’s “GiGi”. She had a special connection to each of her grandchildren. You could often find her working in the yard, pulling grass out of her flowerbed. She loved to cook and bake. She would often send homemade, baked goods with her husband to share with his NASCAR Family. She was big on family gatherings and looked forward to the holidays. Her personality, quick wit and the love she had for her family will be greatly missed.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted and loving husband Charles; her children, Garrison, Vernita and Deidra Boone; grandchildren, Alicia, Garrison Jr. (Taylor), Genice and Ryan Boone, Bryce Patron, Christopher and D’Ara Giles; great grandchildren, Emery, Mason, Austin, Chase and Kylie Boone; sisters, Shirley Daniel, and Marion and Thomasina Baylor; Aunt, Hazel Smith; Uncle, Lewis Williams (Marion); sister-in-laws, Elsie and Barbara Hatcher; devoted friends, Joyce Cuttino, Laverne Courtney, and Margaret “Tippy” Carey, devoted nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
