The Lord, God of all comfort called to rest Valma Issabell Paz on Tuesday,
August 27th, 2024 at 2:41PM. Ms. Valma was born in La Ceiba, Honduras
on January 13th, 1935, to the late Sarah James and Constantino
Stuthart. Ms. Valma accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age and
was no stranger to church. She was a member of New Hope Ministries of
North Chesterfield, Virginia.
Ms. Valma was preceded in death by nine of her ten siblings and seven of
her children. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children Shirley
Hall, Carl Wagner (Barbara Miller), Norma Wagner (Rev. Larry Petin), who
was her caregiver up to her last days, Virginia Paz, and Zenovia Cabarrus
(Rev. Carlton Cabarrus Sr.). She leaves to mourn her passing, 25
grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
What a legacy she’s left behind!
She was instrumental in helping to raise many of her grandchildren in
Roatan, Honduras before immigrating to the United States in 1990. It was
an honor for her to help raise her daughters Norma Wagner and Zenovia
Cabarrus’ children: Christopher, Katrina, Kirsten, and Isaiah Saphrey, and
Daniel and Marjorie Cabarrus, who already miss her nurturing presence.
Her granddaughter, Kemberlee Wagner, played a significant role in her
care during her final days. Dario Robinson, one of her great-grandchildren,
feels a daily void because his “Baby” is no longer around. His Baby’s last
spoken words were, “What’s wrong baby? Don’t cry Papa.”
As a lover of hats, you rarely saw Ms. Valma without one when she had on
her Sunday’s best. She was beautiful with a huge welcoming smile. A true
force to be reckoned with, even though she wasn’t more than 4’11’’. She
was small in stature but big in heart with the sweetest contagious laugh.
She was humble and giving. It wasn’t uncommon for her to give away her
homemade coconut bread. She was a devout Christian and made sure that
her children knew the Lord. Ms. Valma’s grandchildren often witnessed
her whispering scriptures as she was seen reading her Bible from cover to
cover. All those who met her fell in love with her.
She transitioned peacefully hand-in-hand with her daughters, Norma and
Zenovia, as she took her final breath. They prayed with her and recited
Psalm 23 and the Lord’s Prayer, two scriptures that she uttered daily. She
achieved her life’s goal of living a God-fearing life and a life that count. She
is now resting from her labors, as a beautiful angel, watching over us and
awaiting the trumpet of the Lord.
