Ruth Elizabeth “Liz” Clarke slipped away peacefully and gained her wings on Monday, November 28, 2022, at Memorial Regional Hospital. She was surrounded by her family whom she loved more than life itself.
“Liz” was born on March 28, 1969, to Mary Clarke Jones and Warren Scott.
She was proceeded in death by her maternal grandparents, George and Catherine Clarke and uncles, James, Charles, and Marvin Clarke.
“Liz” has lived in Ashland Virginia most of her life and has been an essential part of the glue that holds this special town together. She began her Christian journey under the walls of Greenwood Baptist Church. She later became a member of Shiloh Baptist church, where she often visited with her grandmother Catherine. Throughout her 40 years at Shiloh Baptist Church, she sang in the Sounds of Faith and Senior Choirs. She also assisted with the Children’s ministries. Her presence in the choir stand will definitely be missed.
“Liz” was educated in Hanover Public schools and graduated from Patrick Henry High School in Ashland. Once she completed high school, she attended Virginia Commonwealth University. “Liz” later became employed with Walmart (18 years) in Ashland, Virginia. There, the sentiments throughout the aisles are all the same: “Liz” wanted it right! She could be found sitting down on the floor making sure everything was perfectly presentable and that was her expectation for the teams that she led throughout her time there. “Liz” epitomized the slogan of Walmart, “How may I help you? Not a day went by that she didn’t find a way to help someone else, big or small.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted mother, Mary Clarke Jones of Ashland; father, Warren Scott of Richmond children, Keona (Dawiyd) Campbell, Byron“BJ” Burton, Aja Patterson; bonus children, Brittni Burton and Brandon Burton; grandchildren, Zaah-Ra “Rah” and Ninqi Campbell; god sister, Kalila Jackson; god sons, DeVante Clark and Kalil Jackson; brother, Lance Scott; niece, Danielle Scott; 1 aunt, Eloise(Joe), 2 honorary aunts, Mable and Patricia; uncles William, George (Joyce), Michael (Liz), Aunt Barbara, 1 honorary uncle, Charles (Katrinka); devoted friends, Yvette Clarke, Anne Clark, Karla Baylor, Wayne Patterson and a host of other loving cousins, relatives and friends. #werclarke
