Mary Sue Brooks Lindsay, 87, of Unionville (Orange County) Va., peacefully transcended from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Johnston-Willis Hospital, Richmond, VA. Mom, Ms. Mary, Granny was loved tremendously by her family, and she was happy to have spent her last months in our Chesterfield County home. We surrounded her with love and comfort.
Mary was born to Alfonso and Edith Barbour Brooks on April 7, 1933. Both parents preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Smith and Evelyn White, one brother Elmore Brooks, and many other special relatives.
On January 22, 1955 , Mary joined George Lindsay in Holy Matrimony. George preceded her in death on April 7, 1979. To this union one daughter was born, Denise Mitchell of South Chesterfield, VA.
Mary graduated from John J. Wright Consolidated School. She was a very independent lady who worked in her yard, cooked special meals for her family, and did anything inside/outside of her house. She retired from ITT Industries; however, after a few months of retirement, she decided to take a part-time position for Orange County Collection & Recycling Center. Mary joined Branch Fork Baptist Church at an early age, was a member of several church organizations, and loved her church. Her favorite position was serving as an usher and loved greeting visitors with a smile. Mom/Granny will always be remembered as a loving, caring, encouraging and selfless person to all who loved her. We will always carry her memory close to our heart. “Granny” will be missed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving daughter, Denise, and loving son-in-law, Randolph; two grandchildren, Shivawn Mitchell and Aaron Mitchell, both of South Chesterfield, VA; two great-grandchildren, Rylan and Camden; brothers James Brooks, Sr., of Spotsylvania, VA, and Alfonso Brooks, Jr., of Fredericksburg, VA; sisters-in-law Lillian Brooks, Lucille Tibbs, Sandra Lee; and a special sister-in-law forever, Vivian Brooks; two foster sisters, Marilyn Hutchison of TX, and Shirley Ruffner of MI; and a host of special relatives, cousins, nieces, nephews, and very special friends from Branch Fork Baptist Church and surrounding counties.
