Mary Ruth Watson took the wings of the morning and went home to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 25, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years (James Watson), Son (Arthur Watson), parents (James and Lucy Holmes) and 14 siblings to include her beloved twin sister (Martha Beverly).
Mary was born on March 6, 1929 in King George, Va where she attended King George County Public Schools. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at an early age while attending People’s Union Baptist Church also in King George, Va.
After her marriage to James Watson, she relocated to Goldvein, Va where she would begin a long dedicated church history at Clever’s Oak Baptist Church. Mary was proud to serve the Lord in many roles to include, Pastor’s Aide, Missionary, African American Historian, Deaconess , Senior Choir Member and Church Mother.
She also joined in community service with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Goldvein Fire Department and Masons Lodge.
Mary held many domestic roles over the years and made lifelong friends with the families she worked with. You could always count on her for a good meal and a smile.
She enjoyed spending her spare time with her family, watching her stories, doing word searches, completing puzzles and baking her homemade rolls. She also held a special love for her dear cat, Tiger.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Two Daughters, Barbara A. Watson (Lewis Cunningham, deceased), Bertha L. Cole (Leroy Cole, deceased), One Brother, Daniel Holmes, Three Grandchildren, Chante Smith (Kenny Smith), Darrell Cole, Cherie Agbon-Ifo (Henry Agbon-Ifo). Five Great Grandchildren, Kiandre Smith, Kimani Smith, Kuincy Smith, Jeremiah Cole and Jordan Agbon-Ifo. And a host of loving relatives and friends
