In the early morning hours of May 26, 2022, Mary E. Smith slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus after a brief illness. Mary was born to the late Samuel and Lucy Shepherd April 8, 1929, in Sparta, Va. “Sis” as she was affectionately known was the only girl of 5 boys. Jerusalem Baptist Church located in Sparta was where she dedicated her life to Jesus at an early age.

Mary was quick witted and spry until her illness slowed her down. Mary never turned down an invitation and was always there for her family whether the birth of a grandchild, a school function, or shopping with her daughter. She and especially her “tee hee” (signature laugh) will be greatly missed.

Mary was preceded by her mother, father and five brothers (Manley(Hester), Benjamin(Bernice), Edward(Ruth), Samuel(Ella) and Joseph(Irene). Her husband of 46 years, Harry Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Frances and Keith. Three grandchildren, Tina, Kira and Aaron. Five great grandchildren Ty, Daijah, Justin, Jordan and Jailyn. One great, great grandson Lukah and One nephew James Shepherd (Virginia) and One sister-in-law Mary Dudley. Also, a number of cousins, host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Her famous last words to anyone leaving from a visiting her was “ Ain’t time enough for you to go” will be sorely missed. We love you mama and Granny!!!
