Mary Alice Holman was born June 10th, 1947, in Richmond, Virginia – the daughter of the late Eddie and Lucy Wingfield. She received her heavenly wings Monday morning November 14th, 2022, at Henrico Doctors Hospital Forest in Richmond, Virginia. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her foster parents William Alfred and Pauline Beatrice Coles; her children’s grandparents: Roy Ford Sr., and Dorothy Mae Ford; seven siblings: two brothers, Paul Coles and Samuel Winston; five sisters: Geraldine Wingfield, Venus Wingfield, Marian Harris, Ester Johnson, and Mildred “Arlene” Coles- Anderson; a foster sister, Sarah Thaniel; five nieces: Gail Harris, Odessa Harris, Audrey Dandridge, Cheryl Harris and Latina Trice; sister-in-law: Peggie Holman, brothers-in-law: Dennis Holman, Henry Holman, James Holman Jr., Robert Holman, and Buddy Holman, and a devoted friend: Jackie Holman.

Mary attended Hanover County Public Schools. After high school she worked various jobs. She was a seamstress for many years, worked for Holly Farms – which is now known as Tysons in Hanover, Virginia – and her last employment was with Alpha Nursing Home as a cook in Ashland, Virginia. She stayed at this job, until her health no longer permitted her to work.

She accepted Jesus as her Savior, and was baptized at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Louisa, Virginia under the leadership of the late Reverend R.J. Robertson. After moving to Ashland, she moved her membership to Providence Baptist Church, Hanover, Virginia.

She loved preparing home-cooked meals for her family and friends, sewing, and dancing. But above everything else, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Mary leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband of 25 years, Larry Holman; four sons: Elroy Ford, Donnell Ford, Michael Ford (Charlene), and Antonio Ford (Ashley); four stepchildren: Joyce, Vicky Holman-James, Corey, and Katonya Tate; sixteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters: Florence Trice, Joyce Coles Holt, and Shirley Johnson; three brothers-in-law: Rodger, Ricky, and Earl Holman; sister-in-law: Laura Storrs; a few devoted friends: Doris Fells, Mattie Anderson, and Boo, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
