Kathryn Mary Miller passed away on July 17, 2020. She was 98 years old. Born on May 30, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY, to parents Edmund and Florence (nee Toughey) Van Ingen, Kathryn attended and graduated from James Madison High School in 1940. She entered the workforce immediately upon graduation and spent 11 years as a secretary at Railway Express Agency in Jamaica, NY, until getting married to her husband, Walter Miller. She and her family moved to New Jersey, first to Whippany, before settling in Mendham in 1963.

Kathryn was an active mother, friend, and member of the community. She was a Cub and Girl Scout Leader, a member of the PTA, and stayed involved with her children as they grew up. She served as the President of the Mendham Women’s Club, a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at St. Joseph’s Church, and worked in local Mendham shops, like The Kitchen Door and The Flower Cart. In their retirement years, Kathryn loved to travel with her husband to places like Alaska, Hawaii, and Italy.
Kathryn is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Walter Miller. She is survived by her sons Robert (Mary) Miller and Paul Miller, daughters Kathleen (Stuart) Lane and Anne (Thomas) Schlomann, grandchildren Kristine (Christopher) Mihail, Melissa Schlomann, Zachary (Jennifer) Miller, Kathryn Miller, and great grandsons Christopher & Trevor Mihail.

A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, July 23, at Owens Funeral Service, 104 Green Chimneys Ct, Ashland VA 23005. Visitation will be held from 1-2 PM on Saturday, July 25, at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd, Mendham NJ. Kathryn will be laid to rest with her husband Walter at Hilltop Cemetery immediately following the visitation on Saturday.

Kathryn’s family would like to extend their gratitude to both the staff at Hanover Manor and the Alpha House in Ashland, VA, for their hard work and love shown to their mother while in their care.
