Kate Bundy Smith was born on September 28, 1941 to the late Lonnie Bundy and Etta Richardson Bundy in Essex County, Virginia. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Kate was called to rest on Sunday, August 29, 2021.

Kate was educated in the Essex County Public School system in Virginia. Once she left Virginia, Kate lived in several places to include New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. In Pennsylvania she met and married her husband, Jurdon “Smitty” Smith. To this union was born one daughter, Lisa Smith- White.

Later, Kate moved to Washington, DC and became a faithful member of Canaan Baptist Church on December 11, 1983, where she volunteered in several ministries. She worked for the Hecht’s Department Store where she retired after twenty-four years of service. After retirement, she lived and worked at the Colony House in Washington DC. She manned the front desk and volunteered to help other seniors until her health started failing. In late May of this year, she moved to Virginia to stay with her niece, Yvonne – who she lovingly considered her daughter – who cared for her until her passing.

Kate was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Etta Bundy; sister Adeline Nickens; brother, Lonnie Bundy Jr.; husband, Jurdon Smith; daughter Lisa Smith-White and grandson Tony White.

Kate leaves to cherish her memory, her grandchildren, Monique White of Delaware; Katheryn White, Richard White, Dante White and Kennard Smith Wardrett all of Maryland; and Roosevelt White of Virginia; great grandchildren, Addae and Amari Cameron both of Maryland; and Marcellous White of Virginia; siblings, Dan Bundy of Nevada; Mary Ann Taylor (Rev. James Taylor), Lola Rulo (John), Jennie Holmes of New Jersey and Jean Pugh of Virginia. In addition to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends, also mourning her passing is her devoted niece, E. Yvonne Hughes and special friends, Sandra Dry and Brenda Marshall.

Kate’s favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalm.
