I was very saddened to hear about the death of Sonny. He was a very good man, and I can truthfully say that I have not looked up to many people in my life, but Sonny was one of the few that I can say that I admired greatly. I am very sorry for your loss.

To my dearest Simms family on behalf of my family we send our deepest condolences, there are a lot of memories to share between both families, this family was here for me and my siblings at the lost of my brother and both parents, and we are greatly appreciative of that. To Jo if there is anything that we can do please let us know, Sonny will be greatly missed because he was always smiling and had something very funny to say. Hold on those memories, cherish each and everyone of them. Please remember that God doesn’t make any mistakes. To God be the Glory. Whenever you start to feel sad just reflect back the times that God allowed you to share with Sonny. Another solider with hard working hands at rest. Much love to my extended family

To Joann and family: Our hearts are broken to hear about your loss. Sonny was truly a pillar in our community. I remember growing up with the Simms crew, playing ball in the yard and helping to feed the hogs! Sonny was the epitome of a hard working family man. He was dedicated to his church and family. Mr. Sonny, I will never forget you and I still owe you that wheelchair race (but you’re going to beat me anyway)! Our bond started many years ago after you turned the sanctuary lights off one 4th Sunday and I said, “Hey I’m here!”; so thank you for always looking out, smiling from the back row, and your infectious laugh…I love you! Ms. Jo and family, you’re lifted up in my prayers and I hope to hug you again soon.

My sincere condolences to the family of a great friend. James and I became friends when we both worked for Hanover County Public Schools. Little did I know then that I would later meet more of his family that he talked about so affectionately. Later when I became affiliated with The Carmel School, a contractor royally messed up the floors and I called up to James’ house for help. His wife told me that he had just left, but was coming by the school on his way somewhere. I immediately ran out to the road and stopped James as he came by. He took the time to come inside. He told me what was wrong and made his recommendation. I don’t know where he was going, but he stopped and took the time to help me in a time of crisis. That is the mark of a true friend. I will miss him.
