Hazel T. Woodson, better known as “Haze” or “Big Momma”, daughter of the late Charles “Charlie” Tyler and Florence Tyler, was born on May 13,1934. After a long life of laughter and happiness, our Heavenly Father came down and took her on to glory. She departed this life on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.
Hazel was raised in Hanover county, being the youngest of twelve siblings. She joined Bethany Baptist Church, and was baptized at an early age. She attended church service regularly until her health began to decline. Hazel had a passion for cooking. She loved to make cakes, pies, rolls from scratch, and feed the community on Sundays following church service. She never refused anyone a plate. There was never a moment where you would find Hazel not laughing, conversating, or giving love to her family members.
Hazel was employed by former “Holly Farms”, now known as Tyson for 26 years until her husband’s health began to decline. Following his decline, she became a caretaker in his sickness. Following the death of her husband, she became a nanny to her grandchildren and other children in the community.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Donald Woodson. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Hazel M. Jones and her grandson, George Clarke. In this life Hazel birthed six children, Joyce Clarke (George), Wayne Tyler (Antoinette), Michael Tyler, Donald Tyler (Betty), and Pamela Thomas (Charles Jr.),. Hazel was blessed with a number of grandchildren, Michael, Tonya, Kyona, Travis, Corey (Angie), Jermaine, Rufus, Bryan , Lavar, Antonio, Ashley (Jorge), Travis, Marvin “Todd”, Brittany (Marcus), and Chelsea. Hazel had one sister in law, Bessie Wood. One devoted friend, Shirley Thornhill. Finally, a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and devoted friends.
