Glenda Louise (Allen) Brown departed for heaven on June 30, 2022. She leaves many behind to remember her bright smile, engaging spirit, and loving kindness. Specifically, she leaves her husband, Russell Brown III, who remained lovingly devoted and committed from their courtship in the late 1980s through to their marriage on October 16, 1993, and throughout their twenty-nine years of marriage. Glenda also said farewell to her sisters, Mary Elizabeth Allen and Emily (Allen) Williams. Glenda leaves behind her mother-in-law, Jerrlyn Brown, and father-in-law, Russell Brown, Jr. Her nieces are Manaesia Brown and Kayleigh Brown and nephews are Cedric Scott Allen, Kevin Jamar Williams, Christopher T. Christian, Roderick M. Brown, Nicholas Brown, Patrick Brown, Michael Brown, and Eric Foster. Glenda leaves her sisters-in-law Rosalind Christian and Michelle Brown, and brothers-in-laws Roderick W. Brown, Michael Brown, and Kenneth Williams. Glenda is fondly remembered by her co-workers, church members, and neighbors (particularly little four-year old Makayla Rose Woods) for her consistently cheerful demeanor and willingness to always help someone along their way.
Glenda Louise Allen Brown was born on May 20, 1961, in the Bronx, NY to the late Willie Cornelia (Scott) Allen and Joseph Robert Allen. She graduated from Maggie L. Walker High School in Richmond, VA where she was a standout student engaged in sports and music – running track and playing the flute in the concert and marching bands. Glenda also was an avid dancer, mastering several ballroom techniques. After high school, Glenda matriculated at Virginia Union University (Richmond, VA) where she studied business administration and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1984. While at Virginia Union University, Glenda was active in Greek Life, pledging the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority.
After graduating from college, Glenda went on to work in several health care agencies as an administrator and found her niche with the VA Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) in her position as Healthcare Compliance Specialist, Team Lead where she worked for twenty-two successful years.
Always ready to make someone smile and make them feel welcomed to her home, Glenda found joy in baking and cooking. Shortly before she became ill, Glenda established her business – Goodies by Glenda – catering delectable baked goods and catering business luncheon meetings. Glenda was a faithful person who cherished her work in the church; she remained steadfast in her belief in God through her entire life. She was a supportive church member of the United Nations Church for sixteen years.
Glenda was truly physically beautiful, and she also was spiritually beautiful. She leaves us all an example of how to treat one another toward living our best lives through both trials and triumphs. Glenda has answered the call. Glenda Louise Allen Brown has triumphed over all trials and took her wings to heaven.
Her family and friends love her and will hold her memory close.
