Gladys Lorene Stewart-Broadus transitioned peacefully in her home on August 10, 2024. She was born on April 21, 1935 in Parker, VA to the late Mary and Albert Stewart. She attended
John J Wright school in Spotsylvania, VA and had 5 children with her longtime companion Carl U. Cook of thirty years until he passed.

Gladys worked at the Hot Shoppe, which was a popular restaurant in Fredericksburg for 18 years until she retired. Everyone loved her bubbly personality, as she was always friendly and greeted people calling them “Sugar”. She also performed domestic work for Larry Silver of Silver Companies and Joyce Plummer of Joy Construction. She devoted most of her time to working but was baptized at a later age at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Spotsylvania County, where she fellowshipped throughout the years. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, watching the Orioles play baseball and chatting it up on the phone with her friends and neighbors.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Albert; Husband, Willis L. Broadus Sr.; Three brothers, Archie, Julian and John; Seven sisters, Marjorie, Dorothy, Lucille, Mattie, Molly, Mary and Joan.

Gladys leaves to cherish her memory two daughters; Robin Conway (Jimmy) and Tracy Williams (Dwayne); Three sons, Michael Stewart, Charles Stewart (Christine) and Keith Stewart (Scottie); Fifteen grandchildren which includes her beloved caretaker, Kiara Hailstalk; Eight Great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
