DALLAS COWBOYS ATTIRE REQUESTED

On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, a beautiful soul gained his heavenly crown and went home to glory. Garland P. Smith Jr., fondly known as “Bubba and Smity.” A native of Caroline County was born June 13, 1949, to the late Garland P. Smith Sr. and Ida Mae Smith Foster. Second oldest of his siblings. He received his education in the Caroline County School System. He accepted Christ and was baptized as a member of Mount Oni Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. W. D. Adkins. At an early age he attended Sunday School here and Jericho Baptist Church, where his father was a member.

Garland married the love of his life Christine Jackson Smith and was joined in holy matrimony on April 25, 1970. Together they built a beautiful legacy. As a result, they have two devoted children Falonda and Garland III.

Garland worked at varies jobs before his employment with the Virginia Department of Transportation, where he retired after 25 years of dedicated service. Hearing the forecast of snow put a smile on his face because that meant “overtime.” Reared by a strong father and loving mother Garland was destined to work hard and shine.

Garland found great enjoyment in riding his Harley with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, playing bid whist, putting jigsaw puzzles together and shooting the breeze with the fellas. He had a witty sense of humor and a cool demeaner. On Sundays he looked forward to watching his favorite team THE DALLAS COWBOYS.

He adored his only granddaughter Breyana, who he affectionately called “Brown Sugar.” Garland will truly be missed by all who got the opportunity to know him. He was a true soldier dealing with his health issues, he never gave up the fight. Having lived a full life, he is now home with the Lord.

Predeceased by his parents Garland P. Smith Sr., Ida Mae Smith Foster, grandparents Willie and Helen Turner and George Smith and Hattie Smith Johnson and his nephew Antonio Smith. Garland is survived by his loving wife, Christine Jackson Smith of 54 years; devoted daughter Falonda and a devoted son Garland P. Smith III(Ana) and his adoring granddaughter Breyana; two loving sisters Delores S. Tyler and Shellia M. Smith and a devoted brother Willie G. Smith; two sister in laws Carolyn Jackson and Elizabeth Mines; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends too numerous to name that was enriched by his presence.
