March 9, 2020 Garland Moses Clarke was taken from St. Mary’s Hospital to be with the Lord.
Garland, the son of the late Emmette G. and Garnette V. Clarke was born on April 14, 1944. Preceded in death by his wife Lovie M. Clarke, stepson Rev. James Mitchell, two brothers Chastine I. and Thomas R. Clarke, three sisters, Thelma M. Myrtle O. and Helen M. Clarke.
Garland accepted Christ in his life at a very early age and loved the Lord whole heartily. He graduated from John M. Gandy High School Class of 1964. He worked at Holly Farms Plant after graduation until he was called to serve in the U.S. Army. He returned from the army and was immediately employed by Philip Morris in 1967 and retired after twenty-seven years. Later he was employed by the Henrico Public School system for which he retired after twenty-three years.
Garland loved to dress and look sharp. He loved football, music, ESPN and CNN. He enjoyed telling stories since he was a young child with a lot of exaggeration. He really enjoyed being with his family, that’s when his stories truly shined.
He leaves behind one beloved son, Rodney V. Clarke; four brothers, James E. (Christine), Dr. Winfrey S., Walter W., Sr. (Adeline) and Benjamin F. Clarke (Patricia); four sisters, Ellen H. Nelson, Georgia V. Nelson (Harold), Joyce E. Yates and Mary E. Clarke-Campbell; over twenty nieces and nephews, Linda G. Burwick (Robert), Lisa C. Ham (Richard), Darryl Brown, Markedia Brown, Roland Brown, Kimberly Brown, Trevor Clarke, William G. Clarke, Johnell N. Harris, Nicole J. Nelson, Tonya C. Tyler (Jody), Erica J. Clarke, Kimberly Clarke, Melaine Y. Clarke, Alease N. Jones (Anthony), Benita Clarke, Walter W. Jr., (Tamara), Nadia E. Clarke, Shaunette L. Nelson, Edward L. Yates, Jr. (Dbra), Harold R.
