Elon Maurice Pleasants, son of the late Adelia and Willie Joe Pleasants, was born on April 17, 1934. He departed this earthly life at his residence in Ruther Glen, Virginia, on Thursday, December 23, 2021.

At an early age he accepted Christ as his personal savior, was baptized and became a member of St. John Baptist Church. He received his education from the public schools of Caroline County. Elon served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1959.

He was joined in holy matrimony with Frances Pleasants in September 25, 1960, where they lived and loved one another for 62 years.

Elon was a hard, blue-collar worker. He worked many years with Boxley Trucking Company, Fort A.P. Hill, and Woodlawn Construction from which he retired.

Elon was a gentle, quiet-mannered man who was anxious for nothing. He loved joking and laughing. He taught us to pray, fear the Lord, and owe no man. He had a giving heart and supported many people in his healthier years. In his younger years, he worked hard and played harder. He provided for his family the best that he knew. 2 Corinthians 13:11, NIV: “Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.”

Elon leaves to mourn his wife and five children: Gloria Roberts-Porter (Tyrone Porter preceded him in death), Richmond, VA, Elon Therman Pleasants (Joann Pleasants), Randolph, MA, Ruth Pleasants, Ruther Glen, VA, Ethel Pleasants-Hayes (Robert Hayes), Richmond, VA, and Shirley Pleasants, Alexandria, VA. He also leaves to mourn his sisters-in-law Deloise Sims-Mallory (William Mallory), Richmond, VA, and Christine Pleasants, Ruther Glen, VA. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and an especially devoted niece, Ethel Smith-Johnson, Pelham, NH. He joins his five sisters and three brothers, Daisy Smith, Fleeta Smith, Christine Johnson, Ricenna E. Pleasants, Pearl P. Smith, Willie Pleasants, and Oren Pleasants who preceded him in death as well as his youngest daughter, Angie Pleasants, and a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his immediate family, he loved his long-term friend and traveling buddy, Fred Minor. They were thick as thieves and there was nothing like their friendship. During his illness, he had two devoted care givers, his grandson, Eddie Roberts, and Sabrina Stevens. During his final days, Sabrina brought laughter, love, new energy, and care to our dad. He would light up when she came to the house, partly because Sabrina was so loud! He looked forward to showing Sabrina that he could walk, talk, and exercise for her. Sabrina will always be a part of our family for her sacrifices and loving care shown to our father.
