Edward Romeo Huckaby Sr., also lovingly known as “Huck” and “Cookie”, surrounded by his wife and children, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 10, 2021. He was born in New Haven, CT on November 19, 1938, to Eugene Huckaby of Macon, GA, and Annie (Smith) Huckaby of Fayetteville, NC.
In 1961, Edward married Marsha Morris. From their union they were blessed with eight children, five boys and three girls. From his time as a boy, Edward loved baseball, especially the Brooklyn Dodgers. At one time, he could name every starting player on every major league team. His love for baseball continued throughout his life. He coached for the Walter Pop Smith Little League in New Haven, Connecticut and after moving to Ohio, he began umpiring, which he continued to do for over twenty years.
For over thirty years, Edward worked as a Mechanical/Structural Draftsman with several corporations before retiring.
Edward Romeo Huckaby, Sr. is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marsha Huckaby, and his children: Edward Jr. (Stephany) Huckaby, Eric (April) Huckaby, Brian (Lori) Huckaby, Tyrone Sr. (Yvette) Huckaby, Ingrid (Brian) Entzminger, Collette (Gordon) Wilson, and Margo Huckaby; his brothers Elbert (Eloise) Huckaby, Ernest (Judith) Huckaby, and sisters Edith (Melvin) Burwell, Ezellah Williams, and Elaine (James) Goodson. He was also blessed with 27 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son Steven Huckaby Sr., his parents Eugene and Annie Huckaby Sr., his brothers Eugene Huckaby Jr. and Elmer Huckaby Sr., and his sister Elnora Gardin.
