Edward C. (Mr. Music) Blake

August 10, 1935 – December 12, 2020

Edward Clarence Blake was born to the late Henrietta Blake Thomas and Joseph Motley in Jetersville Virginia on August 10, 1935. He departed this life, surrounded by family, after a brief illness on December 12, 2020 in Fredericksburg, VA.

Edward was raised by his Aunt Thelma and Grandmother Snowdy on their family farm up until he graduated from Russell Grove High School in Amelia, VA in 1954. After graduation he relocated to Baltimore, MD where he started his career as a Crane Operator down Sparrows Point. In his spare time he admired classic automobiles, playing baseball for the Murdock Hearts of Turner Station and being dapperly dressed.

In 1956, Edward met and married the love of his life, Betty Lingham. From this union five children were born Edward, Jeffery, Michael, Maurice and Thelma. Soon thereafter he relocated his family to Chester, PA to work for the Sun Ship Yard until he retired.

Edward accepted the Lord as his personal savior and was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Jetersville, VA where he remained a member until his death.

In the early 80’s he developed a passion for music and pursued a career as a Disc Jockey. His love of music took him all over the country, traveling from state to state deejaying party after party helping people celebrate good times.

Mr Music, as he was affectionately called by the ladies, touched the hearts of everyone he encountered. His charisma, hypnotic smile, and good looks left a lasting impression on many.

Edward was preceded in death by his sons: James Edward Lockett and Edward C Blake Jr; his brothers: Wayne Thomas, Joseph , Harrold and Ralph Motley.

He leaves to cherish his memories: Betty Blake; 4 children: Jeffrey, Michael (Brenda), Maurice (Tawney) and Thelma Blake; 8 sisters Shirley Bonner, Brenda Billups, Rose Jackson, Ritchie Summerville, Sheila Thomas, Grace Diggs (James), Darlene and Michelle Thomas; 3 brothers: Charles Blake Sr, William Motley and Kirk Thomas; 9 Grandchildren,18 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Greats and a host of Nieces, Nephews Cousins, Friends and dedicated DJ following.
