DeWayne Nathaniel Briggs was born July 8, 1982 at St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. DeWayne will be remembered for his passion for cooking pasta dishes, fried chicken, steak, lamb, salmon and grilling. DeWayne contributed his cooking skills to his late grandfather as he watched his grandfather cook. DeWayne will also be remembered for his bucket hat, video games, the love for the Ravens, playing spades with his cousins, music and dance. Most of all his love for his brother Bryant.
As a child, DeWayne read the bible every night before going to sleep. DeWayne attended Canaan Baptist Junior Church where the late Rev. Stewart resided over. DeWayne joined church at the age of 9. DeWayne enjoyed the new members class taught by the late Deaconess Eliza Jones. He adored Deaconess Jones and often spoke of her. DeWayne was baptized by the late Rev. Dr. Cornelius Carter, Jr.
DeWayne attended Cooper Lane Academy, Martin Luther King Middle, Woodlawn Middle and Senior High Schools. He attended Catonsville Community College last year of High School and thereafter. He excelled in school and received many awards.
DeWayne was very active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He loved baseball and was an awesome pitcher and back catcher for Landover Hills. DeWayne would hit numerous homeruns. While at Woodlawn he played football on a team that set a state record of not being scored on. He was the first player to be elevated to Varsity getting his letters for doing so. Numerous players on the team went on to play at Division 1 schools and professional ball. The same year he played on an undefeated basketball team. He also played baseball and ran track at Woodlawn. While not continuing his playing for Woodlawn High School he played some AAU instead. DeWayne was a member of 100 Strong at Woodlawn High School. DeWayne was on the choir at Martin Luther King Middle School. He played Saxophone in elementary and High School. DeWayne loved to debate. He was very sociable and outgoing.
DeWayne worked at Best Buy and a Sports Store in High School. As an adult DeWayne worked with his father at Walters Relocations. He also worked at Red Lobster, Aria Restaurant, M&S Grill with his brother and Ruth Chris Steakhouse.
DeWayne leaves to cherish his memory his mother Donna Briggs, father Raymond Briggs, stepmother, Priscilla Briggs, brother Bryant Briggs, sister Annisa Johnson, aunts, uncles, host of cousins, godparents and many friends and associates. DeWayne will be truly missed.
