On Friday, May 4, 1962, Ann Catlett became the proud parent of Demetria Aurelia Wright Kenney. Demetria grew up in the Cooktown Section of Spotsylvania County, where she attended Spotsylvania County Public Schools, graduating from Spotsylvania High School in 1980. She furthered Her education at Germanna Community College.
Demetria was raised in a strong Christian home, and she loved the Lord. It was with a glad heart that she gave her life to Christ and was baptized into the body of believers, at the Zion Hill Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Albert Jackson. Demetria was a faithful member of Zion Hill serving in several capacities: Jr. Usher Board, Jr. Choir, Youth Council, VBS Instructor, New Generation Choir, Sr. Choir, Missionary Circle, and her greatest calling, the Deaconess Ministry.
“meme” as she was affectionately known by family and friends, was a virtuous woman and prayer warrior, with unwavering faith. She believed with all her heart that prayer was the key and faith unlocked the door. She walked and talked this everyday of her life, demonstrating her love for the Lord, her church, and her family.
In January, of 1984, Meme was united in holy matrimony, to the love of her life, Kendrick Nicholas Kenney. To their union, Nick and Meme were blessed with one son, Kendrick Nicholas Kenney II, “Kenny”.
Meme began her career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 1984-1995. She later worked in Accounting for Beverly Enterprises-Fredericksburg nursing home, and ear, Nose, Throat and Facial Plastic Surgery Center of Fredericksburg, until her health failed. Be it work, home, or church, she believed in being a living witness and a friend to her fellow man.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Ann Catlett, her grandparents, James and Margaret Washington, and sister, Stephanie Wright Brown.
She leaves to cherish her memory, Her devoted husband and caretaker, Kendrick Nicholas Kenney, and son Kendrick Nicholas Kenney II. Her sisters, Pamela Diggs (Robert), Ashley Catlett-Greene (Stephen). Nephews: Monty Kenney, Jalil Brown (Kavon), Jonathan Kenney Jr, Thomas Isaiah Walker, and her nephew and Godson, Kolbe Demetrius Ovington Greene. Nieces: Kennedy Greene, Tiaa Harris Lewis, Alysha Kenney-Williams, Christina Walker, Amber Kenney, and her niece and Goddaughter, Kimberly Cunningham (John). Her Uncle, James Washington and Great-Aunt, Frances Johnson, Great- Aunt Venetta Smith, Brothers-in-Law, Jonathan Kenney and Thomas Brown, Sisters-in-Law, Zeta Walker (Thomas), Ava Haman (James), and Barbara parker (Odell), and a host of cousins, friends, and Loved ones.
