Deacon Charles Alexander Dodson was born on April 18, 1933 to the late Wesley and Lucy Coleman Dodson in Lorne, Virginia. He was third of six children born to their union.
Charles was educated in the Caroline County School System. He received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and joined the St. Luke Baptist Church where he became a Deacon. He served as Chairman of the Board for eleven years. He joined Second Mt Zion Baptist Church in 2004. He was a faithful member until his passing. He worked as a truck driver for over 40 years. He was a charter member of the Frog Level Volunteer Fire Department.

A kindhearted and caring person, Charles was beloved by his family, church and community. He loved to drive trucks. He was known by his trucking family as Shorty. He loved going to church and being around family and friends. He took pride in the care of his lawn and flowers during the spring and summer seasons. He also had a love for tools. He was a person who wanted to get the job done now. One of his favorite things to do in the afternoon was to go outside and sit with his buddy Mac. He loved to dress. He made sure that his suits and shirts fit just right, or he was not wearing it.

In 1954, Charles joined Alice Mae Fields in holy matrimony. Charles was a loving, devoted husband and father. He was a man of great faith in God. He made sure that Alice never wanted for anything. If Alice said that she would like to have something he would get it for her. Charles experience numerous health issues starting in 1996, but he continue to fight on with the help of the Lord while continuing to drive tractor trailers into his mid 80’s. His saying was “if you sit down, you go down”. One blessing that came out of his and his wife’s health issues was a friendship with Watt and Delores Stevens that became like a brother and sister relationship as well their caretakers.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife Alice Mae Dodson, and his sisters Anna Lee Moore, Lucy Mae Anderson and Louise Virginia Dodson Garnett.

Left to cherish his memory is devoted son Donald Dodson (Jean) of Henrico, and Susan Burk of Vienna He is also survived by two brothers James Dodson, Sr and Wesley(Louise) Dodson, Jr.; four sister in laws Gloria Fields, Irene Clarke, Earlene Fields and Geraldine Fields; one brother in law Everett Garnett; faithful friends Watt & Delores Stevens that he considered as family along with their daughter Glendora; his faithful companion Mac, and a host of other relatives and friends
