On Saturday March 25th, Darian “Popeye” Watkins was called home to rest at the tender age of 32. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born on July 13th, 1990 in Paterson, New Jersey to Yongdoker Timmons and Clarence Watkins.
Popeye spent the first six years of his life growing up in Paterson, NJ where he attended P.S. School 6. After moving to Montgomery County, Maryland where he attended Germantown Elementary School, Roberto Clemente Middle School and Northwest High School, he cultivated some of the most meaningful, lifelong friendships with people who will remember him not only as a friend but as a “brother” and “family”.
During his youth Popeye played on different sports teams including county recreation baseball, I-270 basketball and believe it or not he was on a local bowling league! Popeye was a kind and gentle soul who made friends where ever he went. His infectious smile caught the attention of everyone in any room that he entered.
Popeye took on a love for cooking and worked at various local restaurants. He also enjoyed a good workout routine that focused on his mental and physical health.
Although Popeye endured a multitude of road blocks throughout his journey in life, he was always determined to persevere and always had smile on his face while doing so. He was the proudest father to Ava and Amir and a bonus daughter Amirah, who he was elated to watch grow up and enjoy life.
Popeye is preceded in death by his Great-Grandmother, Mildred Timmons and leaves behind his loving children Ava (Kianna Ruble) and Amir (Latasha Taylor and Amirah Taylor), Mother Yongdoker Timmons, Brother Dameon Timmons, Sister Renee Williams (Aaron Jones), Brother Deion Southerland, Nephews Kai Jones and Kairo Timmons, Niece Brynn Jones, Grandmother Amanda Timmons, Aunt Deaire Dreher, Bonus Dad Thomas Southerland and a host of Great Aunts, Great Uncles, Cousins, and Friends.
